Opening Concert: The Poet Sings

  • Belvedere House St Patrick's Campus, Dublin City University Dublin 9 (map)

We are thrilled to launch our 2022 festival with an exciting concert featuring two world premieres inspired by Irish poetry. Frank Martin’s Trio on Irish Folktunes will open with the evening before Fidelio Trio are joined by Daire Halpin (soprano) to perform Áine Mallon’s ‘Elderly Craftsman At His Bench’ and Deirdre McKay’s ‘The Owl’. Taking inspiration from the poetry of Thomas Kinsella and Seamus Heaney, Mallon and McKay have composed two wonderful new works specially commissioned for this year’s Winter Chamber Music Festival.

The evening closes with E. J. Moeran’s sumptuous Piano Trio, allowing us to hear a live performance of a piece from Fidelio Trio’s acclaimed album Ernest Moeran: Chamber Works (2022). This recent release was featured as Gramophone’s Editor’s Choice and was nominated for Gramophone’s prestigious Classical Music Awards.
