Closing Concert: Bohemia

  • Belvedere House St Patrick's Campus, Dublin City University Dublin 9 (map)

The final concert in the Fidelio Trio Winter Chamber Music Festival features three masterworks from the Czech lands. Martinů’s Piano Trio No. 3 in C major, H. 332, which the composer wrote in 1951 during his time in New York, will open this afternoon event. Then Fidelio Trio will perform an arrangement of Janáček’s 'Kreutzer Sonata', a dramatic piece inspired by Tolstoy’s 1889 novella. Finally, we will hear Dvořák’s five-movement Piano Trio No. 4 in E minor Op. 90, B. 166, 'Dumky'. This work gets its nickname from the subtitle, ‘Dumky’, which can be traced back to ballads and songs of lamentation. A lively yet poignant piece, Dvořák’s piano trio will bring the festival to a rousing close.
